The Ethicon Surgical Care business offers a broad range of products, platforms and technologies--including sutures, surgical staplers, clip appliers, trocars and synthetic mesh devices--that are used in a wide variety of minimally invasive and open surgical procedures. Specialties include support for treatment of colorectal and thoracic conditions, women's health conditions, hernias, cancer and obesity. The Ethicon Surgical Care business combines products and services of two market-leading legacy companies, both with long histories of medical innovation. Ethicon, Inc. based in Somerville, New Jersey, was founded more than 80 years ago as a pioneer in suture development and manufacturing, helping to transform the safety and effectiveness of open surgery. The IH & Safety Specialist will contribute to the development and implementation of safety initiatives; Monitor compliance with health and safety regulations; Act as a resource and point of contact for environmental, health, and safety issues; Evaluate, plan and lead occupational safety, industrial hygiene and/or ergonomics programs; Lead the development and delivery of technical training and environmental health and safety awareness programs in support of company's hazard/risk profile; Develop innovative effective environmental health and safety auditing/assessment programs; Lead staff on safety policies and procedures; Ensure compliance with local government environmental health and safety regulations and company policies; Facilitate the creation of meaningful light duty work to effectively minimize company exposure to costs associated with industrial accidents by reducing time out of work; Partner with Wellness staff to complement and support efforts to provide awareness education and intervention programs that encourage healthy lifestyles; Work in team environment behaving in a CREDO based respectful manner; Comply with all federally regulated programs; Adhere to J&J environmental and safety policies and guidelines; Comply with all job specific safety procedures and utilize PPE when necessary; Comply with quality system requirements as defined within procedures and instructions; Use test equipment (Starett Gauge, Mitutoyo Gauge, Microscope, etc) where applicable; Utilize applicable software systems as needed for the job (e.g. ComplianceWire, ADAPTIV, etc.); Consistently meet required work performance targets (RE's), if applicable; Support LEAN and Six Sigma Initiatives; Support Maintenance Excellence (ME2) including 6S and Operator Asset Care; Accurately complete records as defined within the job procedures (e.g. manual and/or electronic documentation); Perform other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor; Consistently meet required Training due date targets; Travel up to 10% as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree is required; discipline in Occupational Safety, Environmental Sciences or Engineering is preferred; A minimum of 3 years relevant experience required; Computer competent with Microsoft Office Software required; Ability to work in stressful/fast paced environment required; Ability to work and interact with co-workers to accomplish company goals in a team environment required; Analytical/Problem Solving Skills required; Ability to communicate verbally and in writing is required; Understanding of industrial hygiene risks and controls preferred; Knowledge of OSHA Process Safety Management program preferred; Knowledge of EHS management systems including OSHAS-18001 and ISO14001 preferred; Knowledge of EHS risk assessments preferred; Ability to work overtime on second or third shift on occasion is required; Potential work hazards include, but are not limited to: elevated surfaces and platforms, high energy sources, chemical substances, infectious agents, noise extremes; While performing the duties of this job, extended periods of sitting, standing, lifting, carrying, walking, bending, reaching, pulling and pushing are required, as dictated by the essential functions and responsibilities; Up to 10% overnight travel is required.
